Job Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and welcoming operation of our hospice facilities and grounds. This position is responsible for routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance across campus and branch locations, working independently with minimal supervision in a small team environment.This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on, self-directed professional who enjoys troubleshooting, working with tools, coordinating vendors, and making real-time decisions in the field. This role is designed to grow over time, with a clear opportunity to take on expanded responsibility and advance into a supervisory or managerial position as part of our long-term succession planning.  The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm; on-call rotation.

What You’ll Do
Facilities & Maintenance

• Perform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance on buildings, grounds, and systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, doors, and fixtures.
• Independently troubleshoot maintenance issues and determine the best solution, including in-house repairs or vendor coordination.
• Maintain detailed maintenance logs for equipment and systems such as HVAC units, generators, oxygen systems, life‑safety systems, water heaters, and sewage pumping systems.
• Conduct regular facility walkthroughs to identify safety concerns, repair needs, and preventative maintenance opportunities.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours maintenance issues as needed.

Tools, Trades & Hands-On Work

• Safely and effectively use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment.
• Perform basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs within the scope of training and licensure.
• Coordinate specialized or complex repairs with external contractors when required.

Independence, Judgment & Communication

• Work independently with limited day-to-day supervision while prioritizing tasks across multiple locations.
• Communicate concerns, issues, or potential risks promptly to your supervisor or management team.
• Maintain patient, family, and staff confidentiality at all times.

Leadership Development & Growth

• Learn facility systems, vendor relationships, compliance requirements, and operational processes with the expectation of increasing responsibility.
• Assist with vendor oversight, scheduling, documentation, and compliance activities.
• Serve as a backup to the Facilities Manager as needed to ensure continuity of operations.
• Participate in cross-training and leadership development in preparation for future supervisory or management opportunities.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Active NC Drivers License
• Experience in building, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing maintenance.
• Maintenance experience in a medical, hospice, or other regulated facility preferred.
• Experience with oxygen systems, generators, and sewage pumping systems preferred.
• Completion of a skilled trade apprenticeship or technical training program preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting abilities, including coordinating warranty issues with vendors and internal staff.
• Sensory abilities sufficient to meet communication and documentation requirements.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
• Ability to safely climb and use ladders.
